INTERWOOD TAIPEI 2008 Opening Ceremony Remarks by Mr. Fred P.C. Huang Chairman of Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) INTERWOOD Taipei is a triennial exhibition and is the largest of such exhibitions in Taiwan. This year, the event will feature sawing machines, shaping machines, molding machines, lathes, bonding machines, sanders, dust collection equipment, coating machines, woodworking accessories, and materials. The show floor is divided up into four areas: woodworking machinery, woodworking materials and furniture accessories, trade media, and associations. This year's event features 182 exhibitors in total and 1,070 booths. The total size of the show floor is 17,850 square meters, while the net size is 9,630 square meters. 2008 INTERWOOD Taipei is the largest woodworking machinery exhibition in the history of Taiwan. Taiwan's Sales of Woodworking Machinery in 2007 1. Production value reached NT$22.9 billion, a 9.3% growth compared to the previous year. 2. Exports were valued at US$683.92 million, an 8.4% growth compared to the previous year. 3. The ten biggest importers of Taiwan's products were the US, China, Canada, Vietnam, Malaysia, Germany, Thailand, Indonesia, Finland, and Korea. They comprised 80% of Taiwan's total exports. 4. Exports to Germany grew by 59%, exports to the US shrunk by 0.8%, and exports to China grew by 12.1%. 5. Imports in 2007 were valued at US$75.82 million, a 25.9% decrease compared to the previous year. 6. The biggest exporters to Taiwan were Japan, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and China.
